The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season is set to start from today, the 26th of March, Saturday with Chennai Super Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of the season.

While MS Dhoni has won 4 Trophies, Rohit Sharma has done one better than him, winning 5 Trophies and is considered the most successful captain in the history of the IPL. Rohit Sharma is also the Indian team’s captain in all formats of the game.
But, now aged 34-years-old, Rohit Sharma is not a long term option for Team India. Thus, India’s search for a young captain continues. And now, former Australian captain and Delhi Capitals’ Head Coach Ricky Ponting has named one option.
Ricky Ponting was present in a virtual press conference, where the former Aussie skipper added that Delhi Capitals’ captain Rishabh Pant has very similar qualities to Rohit Sharma.
He added that he knows that Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma are great mates and shares notes on captaincy and leadership and predicted that there is all the chances that Rishabh career might turn out same as Rohit’s.
He signed off saying that he has no doubt that one day, he Rishabh Pant could be the captain of the Indian team.
Rishabh Pant will be leading the Delhi Capitals again in this year’s IPL. Delhi will be opening their campaign against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians on the 27th of March.
