While all the sports has a sadness of loss and joy of win, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered even more than sadness on April 23rd in 2017 when they were absolutely dismantled in a match against KKR.
Match number 27 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 will be remembered for a calamity for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but on the other hand, a great comeback from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
That day probably still hurts the Bangalore based side when they were manhandled by the KKR bowlers as they got all out for 49 runs, which is till date the lowest score in IPL history.
Batting first, after a quickfire start from Sunil Narine, KKR’s inning didn’t afterward and were all out for just 131 runs. But, the KKR bowlers performed a great comeback by dismissing the entire RCB Playing XI for IPL’s lowest score yet, 49 runs.
Today in this article, we take a look at that Playing XI once again and see where they are right now.
Openers: Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli
Explosive batsman Chris Gayle and RCB captain then Virat Kohli opened the inning. However, while Gayle could only score 7 runs, Kohli was dismissed for Golden Duck. While Gayle is currently away from all of cricket, he is yet to officially announce retirement. As for Kohli, he is still with the franchise but is no longer the captain of the team.
Middle-Order: Mandeep Singh, AB de Villiers, Kedar Jadhav
RCB’s middle-order that day consisted of Mandeep Singh, AB de Villiers and Kedar Jadhav. However, everyone of them failed to play a massive role and get the team out of the mess. They all failed to touch the double digit.
Mandeep Singh has only seen downfall of his career from there. After being a member of the RCB team, he joined the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2019 and was most recently picked by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 Auction. As for ABD, he has retired from all of cricket and is currently enjoying his days away from the game but will be joining the franchise in a capacity soon. Kedar Jadhav meanwhile has also seen a massive downfall. He no longer plays for the Indian team and couldn’t find a IPL franchise for IPL 2022.
All-Rounders: Stuart Binny, Pawan Negi
The 2 all-rounders who were in the playing XI that day against KKR were Stuart Binny and Pawan Negi. Both of them failed to contribute majorly in the match. While both the players once played for India, but is no longer near the team.
Stuart Binny almost vanished from cricketing scenes after his time with the RCB ended in 2017. He announced his retirement in August 2021 and is currently away from the game. He is reported to be appearing in the soon to be played Legends League Cricket. As for Pawan Negi, he is just a fringe player for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Bowlers: Samuel Badree, Tymal Mills, S Aravind, Yuzvendra Chahal
The bowlers did quite well a job that night to restrict KKR to 131 score. However, no one could really contribute a great number with the bat. The veteran West Indies cricketer Samuel Badree announced his retirement in 2018 and worked as a bowling coach for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. Tymal Mills meanwhile is playing regularly for the England team. He also was a member of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022.
S Aravind, the Karnataka left-arm pacer has also retired from all forms of cricket when he announced his retirement in 2018. As for Yuzvendra Chahal, he is now a member of the Rajasthan Royals from the IPL 2022 onwards and is a very valuable member of the Indian team as well.
