Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has given a big statement after top Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup due to injury. Shastri has said that Bumrah’s exit is very unfortunate but it is a good opportunity for the other bowlers as it will give them a chance to prove themselves.
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury before the Asia Cup 2022 and was ruled out of the tournament. His absence was greatly felt and the Indian team could not even reach the final of the Asia Cup.
After that, the fast bowler got fit and made a comeback in the T20I series against Australia and played the last two matches. He was also scheduled to play the T20I series against South Africa but felt pain in his back during practice before the start of the series and was ruled out of the series.
Since then there were speculations that Bumrah might not be able to take part in the T20 World Cup 2022 to be played in Australia and that is what happened in the end.
Ravi Shastri was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying that Bumrah’s injury is very unfortunate, however, he believes that this is an opportunity for the other bowlers to prove their worth in the major competition.
“It’s unfortunate. There’s so much cricket being played, and people get injured. He is injured, but it’s an opportunity for somebody else. There is nothing you can do with injury,” Ravi Shastri said. “Bumrah not being there, Jadeja not being there – it hampers the side – but it’s an opportunity to unearth a new champion,” he further added.
Let us tell you that due to the exclusion of Jasprit Bumrah, India will have to announce a replacement in their squad. For this, currently Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Deepak Chahar are being discussed by the selectors as well as the fans of the team. But there is a strong possibility of Shami being selected due to the pace that he brings to the game and also because of his death bowling.
