The five-time champion Mumbai Indians have recorded the highest successful run chase in Mohali and have chucked down a huge target of 215 with seven balls to spare. MI locked horns with the Punjab Kings at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
After winning the toss, MI skipper Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first. Shikhar Dhawan (30 off 20) and Matthew Short (27 off 26) added some runs at the start. But the game-changing partnership came for the fourth wicket between Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma.
Both batters added an unbeaten 119 runs off 52 balls and smashed every MI bowler to all parts of the ground. Jitesh missed his century by one run and remained unbeaten on 49 off 27 with five fours and two sixes, while Livingstone scored 82 not out from 42 balls, including seven fours and four sixes.
As a result, PBKS posted their fourth consecutive 200-plus total in the IPL 2023 and made 214/3. It was also the first time that an IPL team has scored four consecutive 200 or more totals, while it was the fourth time in a row that MI conceded 200 or more totals in the last four games.
Chasing the target, MI lost Rohit Sharma for a three-ball duck, and Cameron Green (23 off 18) also couldn’t score much. But the third wicket partnership between Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav for 116 runs off just 55 balls put MI in the driving seat.
Ishan made a 41-ball 75, while SKY scored 66 off 31. In the end, Tim David (19* off 10) and Tilak Varma (26* off 10) sealed the deal for Mumbai. MI collected two important points on the board and registered their fifth win of the season. Ishan won the “Man of the Match” award for his brilliant knock. Fans were also excited to see Mumbai getting into a groove when it mattered the most and praised the win.
