Chennai Super Kings are arguably one of the best teams in the history of the Indian Premier League. Apart from 2020 and 2020, the Yellow Army has qualified for the playoffs in each and every season. However, they face suspension in the 2016 and 2017 seasons along with Rajasthan Royals in the infamous spot-fixing scandal.
It will not be a wrong statement to say that MS Dhoni is the face of the franchise. The CSK skipper has been with the team since the inception of the IPL in 2008. Apart from Chennai, MSD represented the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017 during the two-year ban. Notably, the CSK skipper hung up his boots from international cricket in 2020, but he continued his services with the franchise.
He handed over the captaincy duties to Ravindra Jadeja at the start of the ongoing season but was given back midway through the season. Former CSK opener and current batting coach Michael Hussey disclosed Dhoni’s special words at the start of their comeback season in 2018. He also said that the CSK skipper was in tears while delivering the speech.
In a video shared by the franchise, Hussey was seen talking to Mathew Hayden about CSK memories. He said that there are many memories from the IPL for the Yellow Army. However, he pointed out the 2018 season and said that in 2018 we made a comeback after a two-year ban, and at the start of the season, MS gave a speech to his team.
The CSK batting coach also said that the 2018 title-winning moment still gives him goosebumps. He added that it was a special season for Chennai and it was their destiny to make their comeback to the IPL and win the title. Hussey concluded, “He (MS Dhoni) actually started tearing; tears were coming out of his eyes. I remember thinking, ‘Something special is happening here.”
MS Dhoni was exceptional with his bat in 2018 season. He scored 455 runs at an incredible average and strike rate of 75.83 and 150.66, respectively.
