With just 24 hours to go for the start of the 1st of the scheduled 5 match T20I series between India and South Africa, Team India captain KL Rahul has suffered a side strain and has been ruled out of the series.
With senior Indian players, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli rested for the series, KL Rahul was given the charge to lead in the team in the 5 match T20I series against South Africa to be played from the 9th June.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian team’s squad for the South Africa series on the 22nd of May, with many top names missing from the squad, due to being given rest after a hectic schedule in the IPL 2022 and looking at the fixtures for team India in the coming weeks.
However, with just about 24 hours to go for the match, BCCI has confirmed that KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav has sustained injury while training. Now, since Rahul was set to lead the Indian team in the series, the question is, who will captain the team then.
The BCCI has also confirmed that, announced vice-captain for the series, Rishabh Pant has been promoted as the captain of the team for the series, while Hardik Pandya has been promoted of the vice-captain role.
Talking a bit more about the series, the first of it will be played on the 9th June in Delhi, while the remaining four matches are to be played in Cuttack, Vishakhapatnam, Rajkot and Bengaluru on the 12th, 14th, 17th and 19th of June.
