The Indian cricket team is set to play its first One Day International (ODI) match of the 3 match series vs Australia starting today, i.e. on 17th March on Friday from 1:30 PM.
The Indian cricket team defended the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the 4 match Test series vs the Australian team and won the series 2-1.
Now after a hard fought month of Test cricket, the two teams are now set to square off in a 3 match ODI series that commences from today.
But before the match could even begin, the Indian team’s opening duo has already been leaked. While regular Indian captain Rohit Sharma set to miss the 1st ODI, there is huge question mark as to who will open the inning for Team India.
Stand-in captain Hardik Pandya had a interaction with the media about the same. He revealed that Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan will open the inning for Team India. He said he is familiar with the pitch condition of the Wankhede Stadium where had been playing for 7 years in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians.
“Ishan and Shubman will be opening the innings. The wicket looks how it does throughout the year. I have been playing here for almost seven years,” said Hardik Pandya who will be leading the team in absence of captain Rohit Sharma.
Indian Team Opening Duo Dilema
The Indian team fans have not been particularly happy with KL Rahul’s performance in format of the game and has been criticising him for failing in crucial matches. Shubman Gill meanwhile has established his place in the team after having scored a Double Hundred vs Sri Lanka earlier this year. Meanwhile it’s same story with Ishan Kishan, despite scoring a Double Hundred vs Bangladesh last year, he has failed to play big innings consistently.
