Jason Roy pulls out of IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans to announce replacement soon

England’s explosive opening batsman Jason Roy has withdrawn from taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Roy is said to have taken this decision considering the challenges of being in the bio bubble for a long time.

According to reports, Roy has informed to the franchise about his decision only last week. Gujarat Titans, captained by Hardik Pandya, bought Jason Roy in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction for his base price of Rs 2 crore. A replacement for him is yet to be confirmed by Gujarat Titans.

The 31-year-old English batsman had just recently took part in the Pakistan Super League 2022 edition, and performed brilliantly for them. Playing for Quetta Gladiators, Roy scored 303 runs in six matches at an average of 50.50 with a strike rate of 170.22. During this, he also scored one century and two half-centuries in the tournament.

This is the second time that Jason Roy has withdrawn from the IPL after being bought in the IPL Auction. In the year 2020, Delhi Capitals had bought him for Rs 1.5 crore, but withdrew due to personal reasons.

Let us tell you that there are 10 teams in this season IPL and all the matches will be played in Mumbai and Pune, keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic. The first match of the tournament will be played on the 26th March, while the final will be held on the 29th May.

Roy has previously played in the IPL for Gujarat Lions (2017), Delhi Daredevils (2018) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2021). He was initially not bought by any team in the 2021 IPL Auction, but Sunrisers Hyderabad added him as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh. Roy has scored 329 runs in 13 matches which he has played in the IPL at an average of 29.90 and strike rate of 129.01, including two half-centuries.
