The Rajasthan Royals would be looking to better their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 result when they lost the final to Gujarat Titans and they aim for their 2nd ever IPL crown after winning the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008.
Under the tutelage of the watchful eyes of former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, the Rajasthan Royals have a formidable squad that can fight for the IPL Trophy and they proved the same in the IPL 2022, reaching the final of the competition only to lose to debutant Gujarat Titans in the final.
They went into the IPL 2023 Auction and have brought in more strength into the team. However, their star pacer Prasidh Krishna, who joined them in IPL 2022 Mega Auction from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), is set to miss the entirety of the IPL 2023 due to injury.
Krishna was fantastic for the Kolkata based side that allowed Rajasthan Royals to splash 10 crore for him in IPL 2022 Auction. He played 17 matches in IPL 2022 and took 19 wickets, so certainly he will be a big miss for the Rajasthan based team.
With the player now out for the rest of the IPL 2023, the franchise have today announced the arrival of 2012 U19 Cricket World Cup winner Sandeep Sharma as his replacement.
Sandeep has represented Punjab Kings (also previously known as Kings XI Punjab) and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. He did not had a good outing in the IPL 2022 as he took only 2 wickets in 5 matches.
Sandeep is likely to be mainly a backup player as the team already has fast bowlers like Kuldip Yadav, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini etc as Indian bowling contingent.
Rajasthan Royals will begin their IPL 2023 campaign 2nd April with a away match vs Sunrisers Hyderabad from 3:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
