Mitchell Marsh, the Australian all-rounder playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023, has made a significant prediction about the upcoming World Cup to be hosted in India this year. Speaking on the Delhi Capitals podcast, he stated that India and Australia will confront each other in the final of the 2023 World Cup, where he confidently claimed that Australia will beat India by a margin of 385 runs.
The last time India and Australia battled it out in a World Cup final was in 2003. Despite Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy, Team India lost to Australia by 125 runs in that match.
Australia holds the record for being a five-time World Champion, having won the World Cup in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. With their proven track record, they have the potential to reclaim the title of world champions once again.
In the 2003 World Cup final, Australia came out to bat first and scored 359 runs for the loss of two wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Ricky Ponting played a remarkable inning of 140 runs off 121 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes. Damien Martyn also played a great knock, scoring 88 runs off 84 balls. Together, Ponting and Martyn shared a partnership of 234 runs for the third wicket. In response, the Indian team was all out for 234 runs, falling short of the target by 125 runs. Virender Sehwag was the top scorer for India in that match, making 82 runs.
As per Mitchell Marsh, the 2023 World Cup final will see India and Australia pitted against each other, with the latter coming out victorious without facing any defeat.
Marsh predicts that Australia will put up a massive score of 450/2 and dismiss India for a meagre 65 runs. It’s worth noting that the World Cup is scheduled to take place in India later this year, during October-November.
“Australia will stay undefeated, defeating India in the final. Australia 450/2 in the final, India all out 65,” said the star Australian batsman.
