In a latest development from South Africa, the upcoming Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 League now has a name and a date for the upcoming player auction that is set to take place only this month itself.
With the rise of T20 format and how the Indian Premier League (IPL) is not one of the most successful T20 cricket and how it has a major influence in the national team by bringing the future generation, now almost all of the countries have their version of T20 league.
South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the latest to join in the race. However, there is likely a major clash of schedule between both the league as both likely to start in mid January.
Other than that, the new UAE T20 League is has been named the International League T20 (ILT20). South Africa were yet to reveal the name till today.
In a latest development as reported by ESPNcricinfo, Cricket South Africa’s former director of cricket and the commissioner of the new T20 league, Graeme Smith has revealed the name for the CSA T20 League, which will be known as SA20 (could be an abbreviation of South Africa 20).
Other than that, Smith also confirmed the date for the very first player auction which will be held on the 19th of September. A total of 6 teams are to take part in the competition and all the 6 teams have been acquired by 6 different IPL franchises, including the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
It must to be noted that each of the 6 franchises have already signed 5 players each as part of pre-auction player signing. The category of the 5 must atleast include 1 South Africa international and 1 uncapped South African player.
As per the rules set out by the Cricket South Africa, a team is allowed a maximum of 17 players in their squad. As such, each can further add 12 players into their squad. It also follows the same scheme as IPL which means one team can have a total of 8 overseas players and only 4 can play in a Playing XI.
