BCCI announces new limited overs captain for India women’s team after Mithali Raj retirement

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has today announced the Indian women’s team squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. The team was announced shortly after the retirement of veteran cricketer and captain Mithali Raj. In the ODI and T20 squads that have been announced, star batter Harmanpreet Kaur has been named as the new captain.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted that the All India Selection Committee selected the women’s team in its meeting on Wednesday. The Indian team will play a series of 3 T20 International matches on the Sri Lanka tour. Apart from this, the same number of ODI matches will be played. The T20 series will commence from the June 23rd.

Earlier, Indian ODI and Test captain Mithali Raj said goodbye to the game. Mithali decided to put an end to her 23 year long career. He had scored more than ten thousand runs in international cricket.

Mithali Raj needs no introduction in world cricket. Her figures speak for herself. Mithali captained the Indian team for a long time. Twice under her captaincy, the Indian team played the final match of the ODI World Cup.

A few hours after Mithali’s retirement, the BCCI announced the team for the Sri Lanka tour.
