The four-time champion Chennai Super Kings have received massive fan support wherever they have played in the ongoing 16th edition so far. The massive support and love for MS Dhoni and his men have become one of the hallmarks of the IPL 2023.
It is not just the support for the CSK. Whenever MS Dhoni comes to bat, fans chant his name consistently throughout the game. Every opposition captain and even MSD have also acknowledged the massive fan support. Dhoni also admitted that fans are coming out in numbers to bid farewell to their captain.
Earlier, after the conclusion of the IPL 2021, MSD said that he would only retire after playing and saying the final goodbyes to the fans at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Though there is no official commitment that the skipper will retire after the 16th edition.
Meanwhile, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has confirmed that Dhoni hasn’t said anything regarding this to him. When asked about Dhoni’s retirement, Fleming said, “No, he hasn’t indicated anything.”
Earlier, after the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, when a huge numbers of CSK and Dhoni’s supporters came out in away games, MSD said, “I will just say thanks for the support, they came in big numbers. Most of these guys will come in a KKR jersey next time. They are trying to give me a farewell, so thanks a lot to the crowd.”
Dhoni also said earlier in the tournament that this is the last phase of his career. Though it is not confirmed yet whether he will continue or retire. But the way he is playing at the moment shows that he has cricket left in him. Even in the last game against PBKS on Sunday. He came out to bat in the last over and smashed two sixes off the four balls he played. Although, CSK lost the game, they are still in the top four of the competition.
