According to recent reports, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief, Najam Sethi, has spoken about the interim selection committee’s proposal to replace Babar Azam as the captain of the national team. The interim selection committee, headed by former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi, is said to have made this decision.
According to sources, the interim selection committee was formed prior to Pakistan’s home series against New Zealand. PCB Chief Najam Sethi discussed the rumours that were circulating at the time about the committee’s alleged plans to replace Babar Azam as captain of the national team.
“We made an interim selection committee when we took charge. Before the selectors came on board, they told us that there will need to be some changes and Babar needs to be replaced as captain as well,” Sethi said in a video on Waheed Khan’s YouTube channel.
“However, as soon as they were appointed, they said there is no need to replace Babar. I told them you are entitled to change your mind,” he added.
Sethi stated in the video that as long as Babar Azam keeps performing well and leading the team to victory, he will continue to be the captain of Pakistan’s national team. He acknowledged that Babar is one of the finest batters in the world at the moment and has led the team successfully.
Sethi expressed his view that Babar will remain the captain of the team as long as he keeps winning matches for Pakistan. He added that Babar is one of the top batsmen in the world at the moment, and under his captaincy, Pakistan has been doing well. Sethi also noted that if the team starts losing matches, people might start questioning Babar’s captaincy skills and other qualities.
The PCB chief also addressed the rumours on social media and denied any truth to them. He tweeted that Babar Azam met with him and was assured that he would be leading the ODI and T20I national teams against New Zealand. The PCB announced the squads, which confirmed Babar’s position as the captain. Sethi added that those who had spread false information are now out of jobs.
