Tushar Deshpande, the Chennai Super Kings fast bowler, has used his Instagram story to reveal several false posts circulating on social media that falsely quote him as making a disrespectful remark about Rohit Sharma, the captain of India and Mumbai Indians.
Tushar Deshpande, a member of the Chennai Super Kings team, played a significant role in their victory against Mumbai Indians during the highly anticipated IPL 2023 match last week.
The fast bowler took the first wicket for Chennai, dismissing the Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma in the fourth over. Deshpande also went on to take the wicket of Tim David and helped CSK win by seven wickets.
Deshpande shared a post on his Instagram account on Sunday, which included a collage of several social media posts falsely quoting him as saying, “Taking Rohit Sharma’s wicket is so easy. He is not someone like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.”
Sharing the collage with a “Fake” sign, Deshpande wrote: “I have absolute respect for all the legends mentioned above. I did not, would not make any such demeaning statements. stop spreading fake news”.

Fake quotes of players are not uncommon on social media. In the past, a quote falsely attributed to Nasser Hussain after the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match went viral, but the former England captain denied having said it.
The Tushar Deshpande incident serves as a stark reminder that social media can be a breeding ground for fake news and rumours, emphasizing the importance of fact-checking and not blindly believing everything you read or see online.
