Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a disappointing start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, losing by 5 wickets to defending champions Gujarat Titans. However, they bounced back in their next match with a 12-run win against Lucknow Super Giants.
The team is now gearing up to face their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Unfortunately, the team may suffer a major setback as star all-rounder Ben Stokes is expected to be out of action for several days due to an injury.
According to a report in The Indian Express, Stokes experienced pain in his heel after the CSK practice session at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. The CSK medical team will assess his injury before making a final decision on his availability for the match against MI.
Although Ben Stokes has played both matches for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 so far, he has failed to make an impact in either game.
CSK broke the bank to acquire the services of Ben Stokes by paying a hefty sum of Rs 16.25 crore during the IPL auction 2023, making him the joint third-most expensive player in the tournament’s history along with Chris Morris.
Stokes also became the most expensive player to be bought by CSK at an IPL auction, surpassing Deepak Chahar. However, despite the high price tag, Stokes has failed to make a significant impact for CSK in the first two matches of IPL 2023.
