The Indian team will start its T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on 23rd October. Even before the match, there has been a tremendous war between the cricket boards of both the teams over a issue.
Let us tell you, recently BCCI Secretary Jay Shah who is also the President of Asia Cricket Council (ACC), had made a statement that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and this magnificent tournament should be played in a neutral venue.
This statement from Jay Shah did not go down well with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and they threatened that their team would also not go to India to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023. The PCB has also alleged that the decision to move the 2023 Asia Cup was taken without consulting other ACC members, including PCB chairman Ramiz Raja.
After all this rhetoric, former India cricketer and specialist Aakash Chopra has put his side in front of everyone. Aakash Chopra said in his YouTube channel, “Asia Cup might not happen at all if India doesn’t participate, there’s no chance. The Asia Cup is a minor tournament compared to the World Cup.”
He further added, “Skipping the World Cup means you will end up forgoing a massive amount of revenue that ICC shares (with the participating nations). It’s a case of who blinks first. So I’m not taking this seriously. I feel the Asia Cup 2023 will be held at a neutral venue.”
Aakash Chopra further said that BCCI is like ‘big brother’ to ACC members as the Indian board is the only member of the council which does not take money but distributes it among other member boards.
“Of course, ACC is a consortium. But few are aware of the fact that India doesn’t take a penny from ACC. Everybody takes a certain amount from the (ACC) coffer whether 4 million or 8 million but India ends up distributing their amount instead. India has been playing the role of a big brother in ACC,” said the cricket commentator.
