The Indian Premier League (IPL) has brought revolution to Indian cricket. IPL is today one of the most successful and most richest sports event in the world. It has worked as a stepping stone for a lot of players who have now gone on to play for India in the biggest events like World Cup.

IPL is today contested by a total of 10 teams, but, since the inception of the league in 2008, the numbers of teams have fluctuated. While it started with 8 teams, but there were few addition made overs the years.

Teams such as Kochi Tuskers, Deccan Charger, Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions are the teams who were an addition to the original eight, but, now today, none of the 5 teams mentioned above exists anymore.

And for the matter of fact, there has been a couple of players who have played for more than 1 of these defunct IPL franchises in their career.

Steve Smith

Right-hand batsman and former Australian team captain Steve Smith is the very first name in our list. Steve Smith established himself as a great middle-order batsman over the years and played for a couple of teams. Among those number of teams, Smith played for a total of 2 teams and was a member of the Kochi Tuskers as well. He played for both the Pune franchises, Pune Warriors India and Rising Pune Supergiant, infact, he even captained both the teams.

Ravindra Jadeja played for Kochi Tuskers and Gujarat Lions

Indian cricket team’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is another of those player who played for more than 1 defunct IPL franchises. Jadeja is today very well recognised all-rounder around the world and plays for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL. However, in his younger days, he used to play for the Kochi Tuskers and then played for the Gujarat Lions during their 2 years stint.

James Faulkner

Australian left-arm pace bowler James Faulkner is the 2nd Aussie to feature in the list. Faulkner was a greatly present name in the IPL and has been a star mainly while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. He played for the Pune Warriors India in his initial stages of his IPL career and then also played for Gujarat Lions.

Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan is another Indian all-rounder who played for two different defunct IPL franchises. Infact, he played for both the defunct teams in two years in a row. While he first played for the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016, then joined the Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017.
