4 players unlucky to miss out from the Indian squad for the West Indies T20I series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the All Senior Selection Comittee has today announced the Indian team squad for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies that begins from the 29th July, right after the ODI series.

The Indian team is currently following a very hectic schedule with matches coming very thick and fast. They are currently playing the ODI series against England after completion of the Test and the T20I series.

The ODI series ends on the 17th of July while the ODI series against West Indies commences from the 22nd July. Thus, BCCI is currently using a rotation policy and fielding rotated squad for the various series.

As a result of the policy, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal all have been rested for the T20I series. Which means, some news faces have found their way into the squad.

Deepak Hooda has retained his place in the team after the UK tour while KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav both are back in the team depending on their fitness. Arshdeep Singh, who also impressed in that only T20I vs England, has retained his place.

While many players have given chance to showcase their talent, there are some players who unfortunately missed out on the opportunity. Today, in this article, we talk about 4 players who have unfortunately been not called-up.

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson had shown a lot of potential during his early phase of his IPL career. As a result of his performance, he was given his debut in 2015, however he didn’t had a great outing. He has been called-up to the team several times, but has never been consistently given a run, as a result, even after making his debut in 2015, he still features in some occasions for Indian team in 2022, but has only played 14 matches, in which he has scored 251 runs.

Umran Malik

Umran Malik was called-up to the Indian team for the Ireland series in June end after his outstanding outing in the IPL 2022, clocking at over 150 KMPH consistently and taking 22 wickets. However, his international debut was not something special. He has played 3 matches so far and has give away runs at an economy rate of more than 12 and averages 56. However, there is no denying that he has some serious talent and needs to nurse him well. Fans are also worried if same is not the case with Umran just like Sanju.

Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer had a breakthrough year 2021. Coming into the Playing XI of Kolkata Knight Riders as opener for the 2nd half of the IPL, he had an impressive outing. As a result, he was called-up to the Indian team by the year end. But, so far, he has not delivered on what is expected from him. While he played as a opener for KKR, he was used as a finisher for the Indian team, which quite didn’t suit him. He then had a terrible IPL 2022 campaign, where he was even dropped from the team. Although he was part of the Ireland tour, he has not been included for the West Indies series.

Rahul Tripathi

Another deserving player who have been dropped from the squad is Rahul Tripathi. The batsman has been consistently doing quite well in the IPL, first for the Rising Pune Supergiant then Kolkata Knight Riders and then Sunrisers Hyderabad. Even though he was part of the UK tour for the Ireland series and the first T20I against England, he has been dropped without even given an opportunity.
