3 options if India explores the option of appointing a separate coach for Test cricket

Rahul Dravid has not enjoyed a great start to his career as Head Coach in Test cricket. While he lost the series in South Africa, the team lost the one-off game against England, as well. Of course, the home record is clean but that will also be tested when Australia arrive. England has achieved success by having two different coaches for Test cricket and shorter formats. The sample size is low but this option is worth considering for other teams, as well. Even India could try something of this sort. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three options if India explores the option of appointing a separate coach for Test cricket.

1) Ravi Shastri

If Ravi Shastri accepts the re-appointment, India could ponder over this choice. In Test cricket, Ravi was brilliant with both his tactics and his man-management. Barring for the WTC 2021 final, the team was mostly good under him. Therefore, he would be a good choice but that can materialize if he is willing to return to the backroom.

2) Justin Langer

Justin Langer is without a major assignment right now. He has done well with the Australia Test squad and is well aware of the conditions in the SENA Nations. India has not had a foreign coach for a while. Therefore, he can be a very good choice for this role.

3) Chandrakant Pandit

Chandrakant Pandit is one of the three options if India explores the option of appointing a separate coach for Test cricket. The Mumbai-born Ranji Trophy legend has a system in place that is delivering trophies very regularly. When players can graduate from the Ranji Trophy to Team India, a pathway can also be made for the coaches. He is well aware of the situation on the ground and this could give a new dimension to the coaching task of Team India.
