It was a complete dominance by the Gujarat Titans over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday. The prime reason behind that was an epic century from Shubman Gill. The 23-year-old went on to smash his maiden IPL hundred and take the team to a match-winning total in the first inning.
Gill scored 101 off 58, including 13 fours and one six. As a result, GT scored a total of 188/9 and ended up winning the game by 34 runs. In reply, SRH made 154/9 and lost the game. This win has helped GT become the first team to qualify for the next round. However, during his inning, Gill also broke multiple records, which we will check here below.
1. Only Indian with a Quadruple Century in a year
Gill has been in red-hot form for the last 7–8 months across all formats. He has scored centuries in all three formats during this time. He scored three ODI centuries, including a double hundred, his maiden Test hundred, and a T20I hundred. On Monday, he also scored his IPL century and became the first Indian to score centuries at all four levels (tests, ODIs, T20Is, and IPL) in a year.
2. First Centurion for Gujarat Titans
With his century, Shubman Gill also became the first player from the Gujarat Titans to score a century. Notably, there was no batter in 2022 who scored a hundred for the defending champion, despite that they won the title. This season, Gill became the first batter to do so. He scored an unbeaten 94 against LSG but couldn’t get to the century.
3. First Indian with an IPL and T20I century at same venue
Gill scored his maiden T20 international hundred against New Zealand in February 2023. It also came at the Narendra Modi Stadium, while his IPL hundred also came at the same venue. With this, Gill became the first Indian to score his IPL and T20I hundreds at the same venue. Gill has not played any ODIs in Ahmedabad so far, but if he can score a ton at this venue, it will be extra special.
