“He is the right guy to lead Test team” – Yuvraj Singh picks Rishabh Pant to be India’s Test captain

Former Indian cricketer and star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has backed the Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant to be Indian cricket team’s Test captain in the near future.

Indian cricket team is currently going through a transition phase. And who will be India’s long term captain is a big question at the moment.

Rohit Sharma, who took-over the reins from Virat Kohli as Indian cricket team’s captain across all formats of the game, is aged 34 is just a short term option. KL Rahul, who is currently serving as Rohit Sharma’s deputy in all forms of the game is a name touted to take over.

But, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has put forward many a candidates for the role to the Indian cricket team. While players like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are well-versed and well experienced leading a team.

However, Rishabh Pant has come out as a top-notch captaincy candidate ever since taking over as the captain of the Delhi Capitals in 2020. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, the hard-hitting all-rounder, is also proving his credentials as captain in the IPL 2022.

However, former India cricketer and World Cup 2011 hero Yuvraj Singh have had his say on this. While speaking to Sports18, Yuvraj Singh said that someone needs to be ready, giving an example of MS Dhoni, saying that he was made captain out of nowhere and then evolved.

He added that keeper is always a good thinker because he always has the best views. He said that pick a young guy to be a future captain and give him time and don’t expect miracle in the first six month or a year.

He also talked about Pant’s maturity, stating that at his age, neither he (Yuvraj) or Virat Kohli was as mature as Rishabh Pant and feels he is the right guy to lead the team, “I don’t know how the support staff think about it, but I think he is the right guy to lead the Test team.”
