Although the Gujarat Titans lost to Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede last week, they still have a chance to make the playoffs in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.
Chennai Super Kings’ defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at home on Sunday means that Gujarat can seize another opportunity when they host Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.
Despite the setback, the team still maintains their position at the top of the table with 16 points in 11 matches.
During their final home game in the league stage on Monday, the Gujarat Titans surprised fans by sporting a new kit that differed from their usual dark blue jersey, which they have been donning since their debut season in 2022.
At the toss, captain Hardik Pandya was seen wearing a lavender jersey to raise awareness about cancer. While lavender is typically associated with oesophageal cancer, it is now being used to represent all forms of cancer.
This isn’t the first time an IPL team has worn lavender jersey for a good cause. In 2015, the Delhi Capitals (then known as the Daredevils) donned lavender jersey to show support for the YouWeCan Foundation, a non-profit organisation for cancer patients, led by former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is also a cancer survivor.
