The three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka is all set to begin on Tuesday, January 10 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. It will be a great opportunity for both teams to prepare for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, which will take place in India later this year.
Both teams reached Guwahati and started practicing. However, just days before the first ODI, ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah withdrew from the series. It was only a week ago, on January 10, that the BCCI included Bumrah in the ODI series, but according to Cricbuzz, the Indian board does not want to rush him in. It means that Bumrah’s international comeback will be delayed once again.
The pacer has been out of action since September 2022, and his last international appearance came against Australia when they toured India for a three-match T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup. But since then, Bumrah has been at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for his rehab.
However, the NCA earlier reported that the pacer has completed his rehab and is fit to play. Although the Indian selection committee has left it up to the Indian management to decide whether or not he will play in the ODIs or not. But Bumrah didn’t travel to Guwahati with the Indian team. Meanwhile, fans were also surprised to know that the BCCI added him to the squad a week ago.
