The Indian cricket team recorded a convincing 6 wickets victory over the West Indies team in the first T20I in Kolkata. A moment from the match has gone viral on the social media when Suryakumar Yadav tried to motivate Venkatesh Iyer.
India and West Indies is currently taking part in a 3 match T20I series, all scheduled to be played in Kolkata. India won the first T20 International against the Caribbean side by 6 wickets at the Eden Gardens.
After deciding to bowl first, the Men in Blue restricted the visiting team to total of only 157 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the restricted 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi, playing his debut match, took 2 wickets for 17 runs, showcasing his brilliant bowling skills.
In reply, the Indian team started off great as the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan stitched together a great partnership and scored 50 runs in the first five overs.
Together they added on 64 runs for the first wicket. But after the powerplay, Indian team’s inning faltered and 4 wickets fell within 50 runs.
After which Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer walked together to get India over the victory line. Both shared an unbeaten 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket. During this period on towards the last few moments of the match, Suryakumar was seen encouraging his fellow batsman Venkatesh Iyer.
Suryakumar’s voice was recorded in the stump mic, in which he is heard encouraging Iyer to finish off the match for India. In a video going viral on social media, Suryakumar is heard saying, “Venky tere ko game jeetana hai,” which means, “Venky, you will have to win the match.”

Following that, Venkatesh Iyer took India over the line by smashing a six on the 5th ball of the 19th over. Suryakumar Yadav remained 34 not out and Venkatesh Iyer remained 24 not out.
