“Dhoni could get banned” – Here’s why former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag thinks CSK captain MS Dhoni could get banned from IPL 2023

In his recent remarks, Virender Sehwag expressed his disapproval of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) bowlers for frequently delivering extra deliveries during the match, thus endangering their captain MS Dhoni of being suspended for slow-over rate.

During their game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday, the four-time champions were found guilty of delivering as many as 11 extras, prompting Sehwag’s criticism.

During their second match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the bowlers of CSK conceded 18 extra runs. MS Dhoni, the team’s captain, warned them after the game and made it clear that if they did not reduce the number of extras, they would have to play under a different captain.

“They’ll have to bowl no no-balls and fewer wides. We are bowling too many extra deliveries and need to cut them out otherwise they’ll be playing under a new captain,” CSK’s legendary captain had said.

In the subsequent matches against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), CSK bowlers conceded eight and ten extras, respectively.

According to Sehwag, MS Dhoni appeared unhappy during the match due to his previous instructions to the bowlers to minimize the number of no-balls and wides. CSK had already delivered two or three extra overs in prior matches, and in the game against RCB, they delivered yet another extra over.

Sehwag expressed concern that if the team continues to struggle with their over-rate, Dhoni could potentially face a ban, leaving CSK to compete without their captain on the field.

“Dhoni was not looking happy because he has mentioned it before that he wants the bowlers to reduce the number of no-balls and wides. CSK had bowled two-three overs of extra and against RCB, they bowled another extra over. It shouldn’t go to a stage where Dhoni gets banned and CSK has to take the field without their captain,” Sehwag said during a show on Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag referred to CSK’s bowling attack as “weak” and suggested that the team needs to focus on improving the skills of the bowlers they currently have in their squad.

Dhoni’s CSK managed to pick-up 8 runs win in a run fest vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last night. Now, their test awaits in Chennai when they will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on the 21st of April.
