We now have 2 teams from Group 1 that are officially confirmed to have qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022, and they are New Zealand and England. That means that hosts and defending champions Australia have been knocked-out.
Group 1 was always set to be great encounter with England and Australia pre-tournament favourite, however then came New Zealand and ruined everything for the hosts.
Australia won the T20 World Cup 2021 edition hosted by India but was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to COVID-19. While Australia came into the competition as defending champions, they didn’t had the best of T20 setup.
Today, on the 5th of November, England defeated Sri Lanka to officially qualify as the 2nd best team in Group 1. Yesterday, the hosts got their much needed win over Afghanistan, but they needed a helping hand from Sri Lanka, however, the Lankan Lions failed to provide that helping hand.
After England’s win today, Australia is officially out of the competition and a new champion will be crowned. Meanwhile, England team fan group, known as Barmy Army, took this as a great opportunity to mock the Australian. Instead, they got a heavy reply from the Australian fans.
