The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction was yesterday where the newly formed T20 league and its teams formed a formidable squad to build the future of women’s cricket.
After the huge success of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to introduce an women’s version of the tournament on the request of many cricketers.
The Women’s Premier League includes only 5 teams now and the player auction for the player sale took place yesterday. India international and opening batsman Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive buy in the Auction.
Smriti Mandhana was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise for a whopping 3.4 crore. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana’s salary in the competition is already more than what Pakistan captain Babar Azam gets in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Babar Azam, who will play for the Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2023, will be earning 1.4 crore. After this Twitter have reacted to the same.
