After romping Sri Lanka to a 3-0 series win, the Indian cricket team will next take on the New Zealand cricket team in the upcoming 3 match ODI series starting from 18th January.
The squad for the series was announced a couple of days back. Now with just 24 hours remaining for the 1st match in Hyderabad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have issued a statement confirming that Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the series due to back injury.
Shreyas Iyer has been Indian cricket team’s mainstay in the middle-order and has been great for the team. But Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in the T20I format, he has now find his way into the Indian ODI team as well.
However, despite his performance in the T20I format, he is having to sit out the ODI matches because dropping Shreyas Iyer from the ODI side is a difficult task given his performance.
And now that Iyer has been ruled out, of the fans on Twitter are claiming that this is just a ploy to get Suryakumar Yadav into the Playing XI as Shreyas Iyer is undroppable in the ODI format and Suryakumar Yadav has not been effective batting lower order.
UPDATE – Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury.
Rajat Patidar has been named as his replacement.
