“She is officially the first find of WPL history” – Twitter reacts as American bowler Tara Norris takes 5 wicket-haul to help Delhi win vs RCB

The 2nd match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 edition is over and it is the Delhi Capitals who have come out victorious over their fellow Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

After losing the toss, Delhi Capitals were asked to bat first. The duo of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma gave the Capitals a great start, adding 162 runs for the 1st before captain Lanning was dismissed for 72 runs.

1 run later, even Shafali Verma was sent back to pavilion and she missed out on the first century in WPL history as she scored 84 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues and Marizanne Kapp gave Delhi a great finish as they scored 223 runs.

Chasing the target, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got off to a flying start as well, scoring more than 50 runs in the powerplay. But once the opening duo of Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine were dismissed, RCB went to backfoot and never recovered. It was so much so worse that they went down to 96 runs for the loss 7 wickets from once being 3 wickets down for 89 runs.

In the end, RCB lost the match 60 runs. But other than the Delhi batters, their bowlers did well too, particularly the American bowler Tara Norris who took 5 wickets and gave away 29 runs in 4 overs.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) motive is to develop new faces and it seems like that Tara Norris is the first new find of WPL.
