Controversy struck early in what is the El-classico of Indian cricket when the Chennai Super Kings batsman Devon Conway was given LBW out and the batter had no option to review because of No DRS because powercut at the Wankhede Stadium.
The match number 59 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is today being played between the two most successful teams in th history of the competition, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
It is Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma who won the toss and opted to ball first. He decisions have so far been proven right as of writing this article.
As of writing this piece, Chennai Super Kings have scored 44 runs from 8 overs and has already 6 wickets, with captain MS Dhoni trying to build the inning.
But, what has been the more talking point of this match is when Chennai Super Kings batsman Devon Conway was LBW out, but the player couldn’t review that decision because there was powercut issue at the stadium and thus the DRS was not operational.
It was only the 2nd ball of the inning when Daniel Sams’ ball hit Devon Conway on his pads and umpire gave him out. However, with no DRS, Conway could not ask for review and had to return back to pavilion. Later, footages shown that the ball could have missed the leg stump.
As for the match, Chennai Super Kings are in deep trouble, having lost 6 wickets as of writing this article. MS Dhoni is still on the crease and will have to play his career’s best ever inning tonight.
