“I can’t teach KL Rahul how to play” – Athiya Shetty’s father Sunil Shetty finally speaks on his son-in-law KL Rahul’s recent performance

KL Rahul has been struggling with his batting form for several months, and his poor performances have been a popular topic in the cricketing world. In a recent interview, his father-in-law, actor Suniel Shetty, stated that the family avoids discussing cricket at home and tries to help Rahul take his mind off the game.

Rahul tied the knot with Suniel Shetty’s daughter, Athiya Shetty, in a private ceremony in January 2023. When asked about Rahul’s poor form, Shetty mentioned that he couldn’t teach him cricket as Rahul was playing for the country and not street cricket.

Shetty also mentioned that in his family, they do not discuss failures or not doing well in the game. Instead, they show more love and try to talk about everything else in the world to take Rahul’s mind off the game. He added that he couldn’t teach Rahul how to play cricket as he was playing for the country and not for someone to comment and give suggestions on how to play. If he had any suggestions, they would be for gully cricket, Shetty mentioned during an interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan.

“We don’t discuss about failure or not doing well because we all know that they (his children) are fighters. We show more love. We talk about everything else in the world and try to take your mind off. I can’t teach KL Rahul how to play cricket. He is playing for the country, is not playing gully cricket or for somebody to comment and say ‘aise khelo, waise khelo’. If I would have said it would have been for gully (street) cricket,” his statement reads.

KL Rahul’s form in the Test format has been below par recently, which resulted in him being dropped from the Indian team in the third Test against Australia in March. He also struggled in the T20Is in 2022, scoring only 434 runs in 16 innings with an average of 28.93 and a strike rate of 126.53.

KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023, has not had a good start to the tournament, scoring only 28 runs in two innings, and then scored 35 runs of 31 balls in the 3rd match. However, he is known for bringing his best performance in the T20 format and has scored more than 500 runs in each IPL edition since 2018. The Lucknow franchise will be relying on him to replicate his previous performances and help the team achieve success in the tournament.
