Chennai Super Kings played their last group match of the ongoing season at Chepauk Stadium on Sunday when they faced Kolkata Knight Riders in the 61st game of the tournament. Although CSK lost the game, the emotions were very high for everyone who was present on the ground.
The biggest season could have been when everyone came to see MS Dhoni play at home for the last time. It was a touching moment, and the franchise completed a lap of honor to show their appreciation for their love and support for the fans.
Even after the game was over, nobody left the stadium as Dhoni tossed tennis balls to the spectators in the stadium. It was a noble effort by the team and the players to thank the crowd. Well, there are bright chances that CSK will return home for the playoffs, which are scheduled at Chepauk Stadium.
Former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar also got emotional as he talked about the experience and revealed how it made him feel to get an autograph on his jersey. Gavaskar wore that shirt on live television the following day. Indian legend also expressed his admiration and respect for Dhoni by stating that, with the exception of one more player.
Gavaskar said on Star Sports with teary eyes, “I went to Mahi and requested him to sign an autograph on the shirt. It was a very emotional moment for me. I know, I have last few moments left in my life so before I die, if I get 2 minutes, I would revisit two great moments. Kapil Dev lifting the 1983 World Cup Trophy and MS Dhoni hitting that winning six in the 2011 World Cup final.”
Notably, CSK is currently sitting in second place on the table with 15 points. They have one more game left, and if they can win it, they will qualify for the playoffs. CSK will play the Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
