Australia and cricket legend Ricky Ponting has stated that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam will soon become number one ranked Test batsman soon as he possesses all the required abilities.

Babar Azam has come out as a top class batsman for Pakistan in all formats of the game. Ever since his debut in the year 2015 in the ODI series against England, he hasn’t looked back and has went on achieve many records.

He is set to add another record to his name soon when he will lead the Pakistan cricket team in the upcoming Australia series next month, as the latter visits Pakistan a gap of 24 years.

And before the commencement of the Pakistan vs Australia series, former Australia captain and legend Ricky Ponting was full of praise for the Pakistan skipper.

While talking on the ICC’s Review Show, Ponting stated that Babar Azam has been great in the T20I ever in the past as well and his white ball has breathtakingly good in the last five years.

He further added that the sky is the limit is for Azam and should be challenging for the number one spot in the ICC Test Ranking, “It’s only matter of time I feel before he is going to be the number 1 Test batter or certainly would be challenging for it.”

Babar Azam Records

Babar Azam has played 37 Test matches in his career since his Test cricket debut in 2016. He has scored 2461 runs from those matches. Talking about his performance in 2021, he played 8 Test matches in 2021 and scored 416 runs, which is a bit of underwhelming performance from him.

Pakistan vs Australia Series

Babar Azam is currently taking part in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022. After which, he will lead the Pakistan team in the home series against Australia in early March. The series begins on the 4th of March and will consists of 3 Tests, as many ODIs and 1 T20I.
