Former cricketer Piyush Chawla has given a big reaction to the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, to be played tonight, 22nd May. He said that Sunrisers Hyderabad should replace Kane Williamson with Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the captain in the match against Punjab Kings.
According to him, Bhuvneshwar Kumar should be given the responsibility to lead the team. Talking about Kane Williamson, his performance in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has not been able to perform to the best of his ability.
He scored only 216 runs in 13 matches, that is considered under-par given the quality that he possess. He left for New Zealand before Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last league match with his second child is about to enter the glorious world.
In the absence of Kane Williamson, another player will have to shoulder the responsibility of captaincy against Punjab Kings. If we talk about Sunrisers Hyderabad, then apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, they have the option of players like Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram to lead the side, with the former set to lead the West Indies senior side.
However, Piyush Chawla believes that Bhuvneshwar Kumar should be made the captain considering his experience. During a conversation on ESPNcricinfo, he said that when it comes to experience, Sunrisers Hyderabad should go with Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he is a current India international player.
“If you talk about experience, I think they can go back to Bhuvneshwar Kumar because he’s an international player,” said the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Chawla was quoted by Sportskeeda.
He also added about his bowling, stating that he is well aware of the bowling unit and the atmosphere of the team, thus, he doesn’t see a better captaincy option than Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Let us tell you that Bhuvneshwar Kumar has so far captained in six matches in the Indian Premier League history, that too the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Of his matches as the leader, the team has won two matches and lost four matches.
