After being ruled out of the 4th Test match vs Australia due to back pain, the Indian cricket team middle-order batsman and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s captain Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to feature in any matches of the 1st half, as such today, the franchise has revealed the name of its stand-in captain.

Shreyas Iyer was added into the arsenal of the Kolkata based Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise during the IPL 2022 Mega Auction for a whopping sum of 12.25 Crore from Delhi Capitals.

The franchise was close to making it to the IPL 2022 Playoffs until a thrilling last match of the season against Lucknow Super Giants cost them the opportunity. They will now begin the fight for their 3rd IPL title under a new captain.

The current captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a back during Team India’s 4th match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and he couldn’t bat in the match. There is a hope that Shreyas Iyer will be back at some point of the season, however, the KKR skipper is set to miss the major chunk of the matches.

Now under his absence, the franchise has today announced that long serving Indian batsman Nitish Rana will be the team’s captain in IPL 2023. Rana has been a part of the franchise since the IPL 2018 Mega Auction and has been a valuable member of this team.

Rana also has the experience of leading a team in India when he led the Indian domestic side and his home state of Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 and not only he was good as the captain, but he also delivered with the bat and ball.
