Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) explosive batsman Venkatesh Iyer’s performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 has been quite mediocre this year. He has not been able to score many runs this season. Venkatesh, who won many matches on his own for KKR last season, has not played the best with his bat this season. For the same reason, he has also been dropped from the Playing XI.
Last year, Venkatesh had taken KKR to the final with his performance in the 2nd half of the IPL 2021. Not only this, his performance earned him a place in the Indian team as well. Although his performance this year has been quite mediocre but KKR team head coach Brendon McCullum has backed him saying that Venkatesh will make a strong comeback soon.
Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum said in a press conference after the defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), that Venkatesh Iyer has not looked in his form this time but he will make a strong comeback soon.
He added that the team were forced to give chance to other players in his place and that it is sad for any player who has played 7 to 8 months continuously for India and also performed well in IPL 2021.
He continued that Venkatesh Iyer practicing hard in the nets to get back into the Playing XI and hinted that Venkatesh might be brought back into the Playing XI in the coming matches.
“It is frustrating for him and he is working hard in the nets and trying to get his spot back and that’ll certainly be a consideration,” McCullum said.
McCullum said that this is his second season and all the teams must have strategized against him and hoped that Venkatesh Iyer gets back in form soon and performs well against other teams.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) next take on the Mumbai Indians tonight, on the May the 9th in Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. They currently sits 8th in the points table and a loss tonight would mean that they would be eliminated from the race for the playoffs.
