“David, do not come and play in the IPL” – Virender Sehwag lashes out at Delhi Capitals captain David Warner

The Delhi Capitals (DC) team, considered to be one of the frontrunners for a top-four finish in the ongoing IPL 2023 edition, are now struggling to find form and their first win in the tournament. The team’s bowlers have been struggling to make an impact, while the batters are getting out cheaply, leaving the 2020 IPL finalists searching for solutions.

Despite the team’s struggles, captain David Warner has been able to hold his ground amid wickets falling all around him, but his strike rate has taken a significant hit.

Virender Sehwag, former Indian opener known for his aggressive batting style during his playing days, criticized Warner’s slow knock and suggested that he should not play in the IPL if he is going to play like that.

Warner has been struggling with his form and strike rate in the tournament, and his slow inning on Saturday added to the frustration of Delhi Capitals fans. The team has lost all three of their matches so far and will be looking to turn things around quickly.

During the post-match analysis on Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag addressed David Warner directly and urged him to improve his performance. Sehwag suggested that Warner should aim to score 50 runs in 25 balls, citing Yashasvi Jaiswal as an example of how it can be done. Sehwag then went on to state that if Warner is unable to meet these expectations, he should reconsider his participation in the IPL.

“David, if you are listening, please play well. Score 50 in 25 balls. Learn from Jaiswal, he did it in 25 balls. If you cannot do that, do not come and play in the IPL,” said the former Indian striker.

According to Sehwag, it would have been better for the team if Warner had scored a quick 30 runs and got out early. He believes that this would have given more opportunities for players like Rovman Powell and Abishek Porel to face more balls and contribute to the team’s total.

Rohan Gavaskar, also a part of the panel, pointed out that if a young Indian player had played innings like that of David Warner, his chances of playing in the rest of the tournament would have been impacted.

Delhi Capitals will next play their next match in the IPL 2023, that will be against the 5 times champions Mumbai Indians, who are also going through a struggle of their own having lost both the opening matches and would be looking to get their first win of IPL 2023 on Tuesday, 11th April vs Delhi.
