IPL 2023 Player Auction to be held in December; Budget increase likely on the card: Report

If the reports are to be believed, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises will have to get their money muscle out again in December as various reports say that the IPL 2023 Player Auction will be held in mid December with no venue decided yet.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most expensive T20 cricket league in the world. The league is graced by some of the greatest of game from within India and also some of the greatests from around the world.

According to the rules of the competition, each players will have to first register themselves for the IPL Auction to be picked by one of the ten teams. With IPL now entering its 16th edition in 2023, there has been no official communication about the IPL 2023 Player Auction.

However, many reports suggests that the IPL 2023 Auction, also known as Mini Auction, will be held on the 16th of December, however, no venue have been decided for the same yet.

Reports suggests that all the 10 teams had a meeting with the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council and thereafter have come to decision to conduct the Auction on the 16th of December. However note that, there has been no official announcement yet from the officials.

A Mini Auction is just held only across day or a half-day. In this auction, each teams will be looking to strengthen their weakness. Teams mostly releases underwhelming performers and then bring in a better replacement from the Auction. Teams get a budget of the same amount of which they released the players and if there was any remaining from the last auction.

However, this year will be a little different as the BCCI is now set to increase the auction budget for each team by 5 crore extra and every team’s total budget will now be 95 crore. Meanwhile, BCCI is also very hopeful of conducting a Women’s IPL next year and the same was confirmed by the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

Meanwhile talking about IPL 2022, Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans shocked everyone and won the title in what was just their inaugural season in the IPL after entering the competition from IPL 2022 onwards with Lucknow Super Giants.
