“Thanks to Keshav” – India captain Shikhar Dhawan’s remark after 2nd ODI has left everyone shocked

Indian cricket team’s skipper for South Africa ODI series Shikhar Dhawan’s remark during the post match ceremony has left everyone in split as the India captained thanked the Proteas captain Keshav Maharaj on Live TV.

India made a fabulous comeback into the series with a win in the 2nd match of the ODI series against the Proteas after the Keshav Maharaj led side had won the 1st match of the series in Indore on the 6th of October.

It was a must win match for the Indian team to keep themselves alive in the series as the 2nd match was played in the City of former India captain MS Dhoni’s hometown Ranchi.

India made 2 changes into the team with Washington Sundar returned to the fold while Shahbaz Ahmed made his India debut. Batting first, South Africa posted 278 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Aiden Markram scored 79 runs and Reeza Hendricks also added 74 runs. Mohammed Siraj got 3 wickets while 1 each for Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur.

Chasing the target, India captain Shikhar Dhawan got out early. Shubman Gill tried to build his inning, but was soon after dismissed. But, it was a great partnership between Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer that led India to victory with the latter scoring his 2nd ODI century while the former missed on the century by 7 runs. In the end, India won the match by 7 wickets with 5 overs remaining.

Meanwhile, it is captain Shikhar Dhawan’s statement during the post match ceremony which is doing rounds. During the ceremony, Dhawan thanked South Africa skipper Keshav Maharaj for opting to bat first after winning the toss. “Worked perfectly well for us, thanks to Keshav that he chose to bat. Glad that dew came in at the right time,” said Dhawan.

With that win for India, the series is currently level with 1 win each for India and South Africa and the decider will be played on the 11th of October in New Delhi.
