Team India has produced some of the biggest names in the game of cricket. The history suggests that India has always been a batting-dominant team, and the Indian batters have dominated all parts of the world with their bats. First, Sunil Gavaskar became the first batter to cross 10,000 runs and 30 centuries in test cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar needs no introduction to this game. However, after him, it was Virat Kohli who became probably the best all-format batter in history. But the biggest question is, “Who after Virat?
Former Indian star and 2007 T20 World Cup member Robin Uthappa has named an Indian youngster who will be the next big thing in the world. In a discussion on Zee News English, Uthappa said that Shubman Gill will be the next superstar across formats in Indian cricket.
The 23-year-old has been in red-hot form across fromats. He scored his maiden Test century against Bangladesh recently, followed it with a double century in 50-over cricket, and then he also scored his maiden T20I hundred against New Zealand a few months back. However, in the last game, Gill smashed his maiden IPL century as well.
He also became the first Indian to score a century in a Test, ODI, T20I, and IPL in a calendar year. Uthappa said, “I see potential in Shubman Gill to be as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I certainly think he has got the stuff. He has a phenomenal player, who has got an exceptional form. He is playing great cricket at the moment.”
Furthermore, the former Indian star also named Yashasvi Jasiwal to play for Team India soon. Both Indian youngsters are among the top scorers in the ongoing tournament. Gill is second with 576 runs, while Jaiswal is third with 575 runs in the tournament. Jaiswal will be seen in action on Friday against PBKS, while Gill will play against RCB on Sunday.
