Indian wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik revealed that he still dreams of a return to Indian national team, especially in the T20I team as a finisher.

Dinesh Karthik was India’s backup wicketkeeper batsman during the era of MS Dhoni, who was India’s first choice keeper and captain as well.

Dinesh Karthik has proven in credentials during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and in the Indian domestic scenes that he has still got one run in him.

In an recent detailed interview with the Asian News International (ANI), Karthik revealed his desire to make a comeback to the Indian cricket team’s lineup in the future, especially in the T20I team as the finisher.

He stated to ANI that he still harbours the dream of a return to the Indian team. He said, “I still harbour the ambition of playing for my country again and do everything possible, and that’s my ultimate goal.”

He further added that the next three years are very crucial for him as he still trains hard for a return. He also mentioned that there is a fire inside him burning brightly as he looks to make a return. He added, “My ultimate aim is to play for country again, especially the T20 format. There is fire still burning very brightly for T20 cricket.”

He gave an example of India’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2021 and mentioned that India lacked a finisher. He went on that he has proven record in the limited times that he represent the India colour or in the franchise cricket.

Dinesh Karthik Career Records

Dinesh Karthik made his India international debut in the year 2004, even before MS Dhoni made his debut. So far he, he has played 26 Test matches and has scored 1025 runs.

He has played 94 ODIs and 32 T20Is and has scored 1752 runs and 399 runs respectively. He last represented India in the semi-final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup against New Zealand which India lost. Karthik scored only 6 runs in that match.
