“Teams with 16 Points Can Miss Out, 15 Can Qualify”- Ex-IPL Star makes a staggering claim on mind-boggling IPL 2023 playoff scenario

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is probably one of the most exciting. We are just a few games away from the start of the playoffs, but until now, there have been three spots left in the next round. The defending champion Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023.

Only the Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have been eliminated so far, and the other seven teams can still make it to the next round and grab those three available slots. However, some teams can go directly by winning their remaining games.

On the other hand, other teams need to win and hope that some results of the other matches can go their way and they can make a surprise entry into the playoffs. Former Indian test opener Aakash Chopra took to Twitter and discussed the mind-boggling situations that can occur, which can totally change the course of the game.

Aakash tweeted, “Teams with 15 points can qualify. And teams with 16 points can miss out for the playoffs. What an incredible season we’ve had…  Both CSK and LSG can reach 17. Qualification confirmed. Both of them can finish with 15…and qualify if PBKS, RCB or MI don’t reach 16. If both CSK & LSG reach 17…and MI-PBKS-RCB finish with 16…team with the best NRR will qualify. Kya season hai.”

The qualification scenario is very tricky at the moment. CSK and LSG have 15 points each, and if they can win their next game, they will qualify for the next round. But if both teams lose their final game, they can end up with 15 points. In that case, RCB and MI, who can move up to 16, can qualify, and one of CSK or LSG will qualify on the basis of NRR.

But if MI and RCB fail to win their remaining games, then CSK and LSG can still qualify with 15 points on the board. But if both CSK and LSG win their next game, then one from MI or RCB will make it to the next round on the basis of NRR.
