Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman for the Indian cricket team, expressed his opinion that it might be a demanding task for Ishan Kishan to make his Test debut in the highly anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
Kishan has recently been included in India’s squad for the WTC Final against Australia, scheduled for June 7.
During an interview on The ICC Review show, Karthik stated that, in his view, KS Bharat would be a suitable choice to play in the WTC Final. He emphasized that expecting Ishan to make his Test debut on such a grand stage would be placing a significant burden on him. Kishan’s inclusion in the WTC Final squad came about due to KL Rahul’s injury during the IPL, which ruled him out of the one-off Test match.
According to Dinesh Karthik, he believes that KS Bharat would be a more suitable and straightforward choice for the World Test Championship Final, as making Ishan Kishan debut in such a high-stakes match would be quite demanding.
“I think Bharat will be a pretty straightforward choice because playing Ishan Kishan in his debut and a Test match straight in the World Test Championship Final is asking a bit too much,” said the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player.
Karthik further mentioned that Bharat is also a slightly superior wicket-keeper compared to Kishan, which adds to his favor. Bharat had the opportunity to be part of India’s starting XI in all four matches of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, which India won by a margin of 2-1.
On June 7, India will be vying to secure their first ICC silverware in nearly a decade as they take on Australia in the World Test Championship Final. The prestigious match will be held at the Kennington Oval Stadium in London, UK. Indian cricket team will be determined to clinch this significant victory and add another memorable achievement to their cricketing legacy.
