During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, the ‘Dhoni Review System’ was once again brought into play. Mitchell Santner delivered a fuller ball down the leg side to Suryakumar Yadav, who failed to play a sweep shot. The umpire signalled it as a wide, but MS Dhoni, who was keeping wickets for CSK, collected the ball and appealed for a review.
The replay showed that Suryakumar had indeed nicked the ball, and he was subsequently given out. This incident showcased Dhoni’s sharp game sense and his ability to turn the game in CSK’s favour.
After Dhoni’s review, the third umpire confirmed that Suryakumar had indeed edged the ball, leading to the on-field umpire reversing his decision to give him out caught behind. This was yet another instance of the ‘Dhoni Review System’ coming into play, showcasing Dhoni’s sharp eye and presence of mind behind the stumps.
