On Wednesday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came close to achieving a remarkable win against Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match. Although the captain MS Dhoni remained undefeated until the end, the team needed five runs from the last ball to emerge victorious.
Unfortunately, Dhoni was unable to hit the ball to the boundary, resulting in Rajasthan securing a narrow three-run victory. Following the game, CSK coach Stephen Fleming shared troubling information that Dhoni is currently nursing a knee injury.
During the match, Dhoni demonstrated his exceptional skills, particularly against spin bowlers, hitting several trademark sixes. He accumulated a total of 32 runs off only 17 deliveries, consisting of three sixes and one boundary. Additionally, Dhoni formed a crucial partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed 25 runs off 15 balls to the team’s score.
During the final over of the match, with Sandeep Sharma bowling and the team requiring 21 runs off six balls, Dhoni hit two sixes. However, Sandeep regained his composure and managed to prevent CSK from achieving victory, securing a three-run win for his team.
Coach Fleming commented on Dhoni’s performance, acknowledging that the captain was able to execute some remarkable shots despite nursing a knee injury.
“He is nursing a knee injury, which you can see in some of his movements. It’s hindering him somewhat. His fitness has always been very professional. He comes a month before the tournament starts. He’s a great player. We have never doubts over him. He’s just amazing,” the CSK Head Coach said after the match.
Although it is confirmed that Dhoni is currently dealing with a knee injury, Fleming did not imply that the issue would prevent the captain from participating in the forthcoming matches for CSK.
Furthermore, Fleming also confirmed that the team would be without the services of pacer Sisanda Magala for a couple of weeks.
