Indian Premier League’s new boys Gujarat Titans Head Coach and former Indian cricketer and pace bowler Ashish Nehra has heaped praised on fast bowler Mohammed Shami, describing Shami as equal to Jasprit Bumrah. He stated that Mohammed Shami is a wicket-taking bowler just like Bumrah, who plays for Mumbai Indians.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season is set to kick-off from tomorrow, the 26th March, with Chennai Super Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders. This year, two new teams have entered the competition and Gujarat Titans is one of that.
The team has build a very strong squad ahead of their inaugural IPL season, while former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has been appointed the Head Coach.
42-year-old Ashish Nehra while interacting on the show Backstage with Boria, said that they have a combination of everything, which is very important and added that he has always reposed faith in Mohammed Shami. He believes that people may say that his figures in limited overs are not that good, but Nehra believes that in T20 cricket, it depends how you use that player.
The former left-arm pacer further said, “When it comes to Shami, I keep him absolutely on par with Jasprit Bumrah.” He further added that when you look at his figures in T20 and ODI, even though Bumrah’s economy is 7.5 and Shami’s is 8.2 and 8.5 respectively, but his strike rate is superb. He added that Shami is a wicket-taking bowler and when the team has an experienced bowler like Shami, nothing more is needed than this, believes that Gujarat Head Coach.
It is already known that Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are the two new teams joining in from the IPL 2022. The Bengal oacer Mohammed Shami will be seen wearing the Gujarat Titans’ colour in this year’s IPL.
In the Mega Auction held in February, the franchise bought him for Rs 6 crore and 25 lakh. Apart from Shami, pace bowlers like Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph are also part of the team, while the command of the team has been handed to Hardik Pandya.
Gujarat Titans has included excellent and quality players in the team during the Player Auction. The 15th season of IPL is starting from March 26, while the Gujarat team will start their campaign from March 28 with a match against the Lucknow Super Giants.
