After another disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Punjab Kings have reportedly decided to sack their head coach Anil Kumble before the IPL 2023 season to be played next year. This decision comes in the wake of Kumble’s contract with Punjab Kings likely to end by September.
While the franchise is yet to officially bid farewell, some reports do suggest that the franchise is holding talks with multiple coaches and they could come to a decision as early as next week.
Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble has been the boss of the Punjab Kings family since the year 2020 when he took over from Mike Hesson. However, it has not been a dream run for him as Punjab Kings failed to reach the playoffs in all the seasons he coached the team.

Eoin Morgan
The former England World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan is the first name in our list because there were rumours that Punjab Kings were considering making an approach for their former player to join the team as their coach.
Morgan has a vast experience of the game. The former England captain is tons of international experience behind and his leadership quality is no secret to anyone. He is the only England captain to win the World Cup and also guided KKR to the IPL 2021 final as captain.
However, due to his performance not being good with the bat, he was not retained and remained unsold in IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He has officially retired from International cricket and might want to try his hands on coaching.
Ravi Shastri
The next potential candidate in our list is the former Indian cricket team head coach and veteran cricketer Ravi Shastri. While Shastri failed to win any major World Cup trophy during his reign as Indian team’s head coach, he was quite a successful manager in interns of other aspect.
His brilliant understanding of Indian players might come in really handy for the Punjab based side. He had maintained a great consistency as Indian team’s head coach and Punjab Kings can expect same from him. He is currently working as a commentator once again, but could be open to making a comeback as a coach again.
Trevor Bayliss
The last but not the least name in our list today is former IPL winning coach with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Trevor Bayliss. Trevor Bayliss is a very experienced and successful coach in T20 leagues. He was also a part of the England team that won the World Cup 2019 as their coach.
So, Trevor Bayliss very well knows how to earn success in the game of bat and ball. Other than winning the IPL Trophy twice with KKR, he has also won the Big Bash League and the Champions League.
Currently he is available to be approached by any team if interested and himself could be very interested in taking the role of Punjab Kings head coach.
