Indian cricket team is one of the most strongest team in the world of cricket. Their depth in talents in domestic makes it really hard for a player to survive in the team if you don’t perform to keep your place in the team.
Early days of cricket was a pure struggle for the Indian team. But, ever since the 1983 World Cup win under Kapil Dev’s captaincy, India has become a dynasty in cricket today. Team India is today world’s one of the best cricket team.
Each and every year, India produces some new stars all thanks to its great domestic system. Starting from the Ranji Trophy to the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Today, there is so much competition is going on for a place in the Indian team with new talents emerging, it is now really difficult for existing to keep hold of their place in the team without performing.
With Team India’s prime focus now on the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, the team management is looking to find its right balance before that. There are some players now who may find it difficult to keep their place in the team. Today, in this article, we take a look at 3 players who are at the brink of getting dropped.
Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has been quite a valuable member of the Indian cricket team, whether it is in the T20Is or the ODIs or even the longest format of the game now. However, 2022 has not been impressive for him. Even though he started off well with the series against Sri Lanka, but since then he has been struggling. He has played only 5 ODI matches this year and has scored only 134 runs while he has scored 351 runs from 10 T20I matches. However, the numbers doesn’t tell the true story, he accumulated 204 runs from the 3 match series against Sri Lanka only, but has been struggling since.
Venkatesh Iyer
After a breakthrough year in the 2nd phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Venkatesh Iyer got a call-up to the Indian cricket team for the New Zealand series after the T20 World Cup. He played as a opener for the KKR, but was used as a proper lower-order all-rounder. He is mainly a member of the Indian team in T20I squad and he has only scored 97 runs from 6 matches this year. He was also struggling in the IPL and was even dropped from the team’s Playing XI. With him failing to have any major impact and Hardik Pandya now back in the team, Venkatesh Iyer’s time is probably over.
Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson is a veteran in Indian cricket, without even playing 20 matches. Samson was a very big prospect in his early days playing for the Rajasthan Royals. He was called-up to the Indian team in 2015 in the T20I format, but never had a consistent run at the team. Which is why, in 2022 yet Sanju Samson is part of the Indian team but has a total appearance of 15 matches including the T20Is and the ODIs. While he maybe a part of the team as a backup wicketkeeper, it may not be long now that Sanju will be shown the door.
