The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the biggest brand in the IPL and just now they have put their foot in women’s cricket as well, being one of the total 5 founding members of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2008, it has massively influenced the Indian cricket team’s performance in all forms of the game, whether it is the T20I, ODI or even Test. IPL has also gave a platform for the youngsters to prove their worth and make their way into the Indian team with their performance.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) want to implement the same thing in Women’s cricket as well, which they have decided to start a women’s T20, the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The WPL Player Auction is currently ongoing and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been on fire.
RCB have so far built a strong team. And you won’t believe that both the teams (RCB Men’s and Women’s) have a lot of similarities between them. Today in this article, we take a look at 3 similarities between Royal Challengers Bangalore Men’s and Women’s team.
Having two of Indian team’s star players
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has the services of former Indian captain Virat Kohli in their disposal in the men’s team. Kohli has been a great batsman for the Indian team. Bangalore managed to snap-up Indian women’s cricket team’s opening batsman Smriti Mandhana as the first pick of the Auction for a hefty 3.4 crore. Smriti is currently Indian women’s team’s one of the best batter. More surprising fact is that both the players wear jersey number 18.
Both Kohli and Mandhana captained both India and RCB
Virat Kohli has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since the inaugural season. He was groomed by the franchise and was later handed the team’s captaincy. He also led the Indian cricket team in all formats of the game. However, due to struggling form, Kohli quit both RCB and India captaincy.
Smriti Mandhana is currently the vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team working as a deputy of Harmanpreet Kaur. However, he has also captained the team in multiple occasions and likely to takeover from Harmanpreet soon. She is also likely to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s team in the WPL inaugural season.
AB de Villiers and Ellyse Perry: World Cricket’s Two Biggest Name
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had former South African cricket team’s captain AB de Villiers in their team. He was a very important member of the Banglore side. De Villiers has a huge fan following and is considered one of the legends of RCB. However he has retired from playing all forms of cricket.
Royal Challengers Bangalore picked-up the services of Australian cricket team’s star player Ellyse Perry. Perry is just like AB de Villiers, has a solid fan base and the numbers of her hater are almost near to Zero, just like AB de Villiers. She one of the biggest player in women’s cricket and will be important for RCB in WPL 2023.
